A native of Murray, KY, Debbie Smith graduated from Calloway County High School.

She retired from Fisher Price in 1995 after working there for 14 years.

She is an active member of Glendale Road Church of Christ. In her own words, she is a Christian who wants to make the world better for everyone. Debbie had the idea for the kitchen after noticing the need at a Bible study she was attending.

Debbie put something on Facebook stating that "I'm going to open a community kitchen. Who's with me?" The response she received was overwhelming. On June 1, 2015 her dream was realized with the opening of Soup for the Soul.

The mission of Soup for the Soul is to serve the hungry of our community by sharing the love of God through giving food for the body, kindness for the soul, and hope for the future.

This summer, as a result of an Eagle Scout project, Soup for the Soul introduced the summer lunch bus that. Rotating locations during the week, the bus brings meals to kids 18 and younger during the summer months.

It is through Debbie's vision that this community has rallied and made Soup for the Soul a valuable resource for those in need. Her countless hours of planning, fund raising, engaging volunteers, and interacting with those that visit the kitchen are a true example of "service above self."
