THANK YOU for visiting the Rotary Club of Murray website.  I hope that you will find the information interesting and informative.  If you are a prospective Rotarian, we invite you to visit our club meetings on Thursday at noon at Pagliai’s Restaurant on Chestnut Street.  In addition to food, good fellowship and fun, we have programs about thirty minutes in length that keep us apprised of what is happening in the community, throughout the commonwealth, as well as in our country and internationally.

A project of great significance to all Rotarians is the drive to “End Polio Now.”  We have been challenged by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to join with them in eradicating polio worldwide.  At present, polio is still prevalent in Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, and Nigeria.  Our club’s goal is to raise $2,000 this year; we are on track to surpass that goal.

The Rotary Club of Murray was established in 1924 and currently has 141 members.  Annual projects include the Max Hurt Memorial Golf Tournament, the Murray Rotary FLW Bass Fishing Tournament, the Scooper Bowl ice cream contest, the November Telethon, the Tom Rushing Memorial Breakfast, and the Christmas Parade on the first Saturday of December.  Proceeds from these projects fund scholarships, assist local charities, and support the Murray Rotary Foundation for Families and Children.  Visit the Photo Gallery link for visuals of these events.

The Rotary Club of Murray supports the schools in the community by recognizing a Student of the Month from Murray High School and Calloway County High School.  Murray Rotarians also give a literacy backpack to every second grader at the beginning of the summer and a dictionary to every rising fourth grader.  Rotarians visit every elementary school in the county to read to each third grade a book entitled Apple Dumpling Adventure, an age-appropriate story that promotes the Four-Way Test of Rotarians.  Is it the Truth?  Is it Fair to all concerned? Will it build Goodwill and better Friendships?  Will it be Beneficial to all concerned?

In addition to these projects, the Rotary Club of Murray regularly engages in park beautification and disaster relief efforts.  Rotary Club of Murray partners with a Rotary club in Virginia to provide safe drinking water in Ghana.  The club sponsors and hosts annual high school speech competitions.

Service Above Self is demonstrated by members in the Avenues of Service which include Club Service, Community Service, Vocational and International Service, and New Generations.  Your comments and suggestions concerning this website are welcome.

Sincerely,
